Starts and finishes

Here are the bobbins from Christmas time, finally spangled and ready to use.

The first pair are handmade, with a beaded ring, next are the 10th anniversary Gumnut bobbins, next, my Christmas gift to me from Acorn Bobbins and the final 3 pairs are the last of my bobbin of the month plain bone bobbins from Acorn Bobbins.

 Here is my latest project, coming along very nicely.  The bobbins are all my beginners, some painted, some stained, some with thread wrapping and some are left plain.  the thread is 60/2 linen with a splash of 40/2 linen colour and the pattern is from Torchon Lace by Else Marie Bjerregaard.  It will be a house warming gift for Colin's son and daughter in law when finished.

 Here is my completed hardanger setting...hmmmm just noticed the camera date is still out - I took the pictures today!  Although it has been finished for a while now, just had to get the camera out.

 This is what the table will look like when I find a night without the boarders to have our romantic meal...thinking roast lamb with fresh garden beans, cauliflower and carrots and roasted potatoes, with my self saucing chocolate pudding and ice cream for dessert....All Colin's favourites LOL

Last night I finally got my tatting box out and sorted through the knots, threads, bits of tatting and jumble of shuttles.  I think it is time to get a couple of PHDs out and start tatting again!

Although there are more scarves, I have either already posted or given them away before I took a 'completed' pic, so here is 1 setting of the Hardanger work complete.

The table centre is almost finished, so only a placemat, serviette, serviette ring and coaster to go.

 

Back to the stuff I should be doing now...

Some news and needlelace

First of all, here is the lace I have been working on lately...Hardanger is new to me, but I must admit I love this...

 The supervisor is loving the lamp and my knee!

 And finally the 1st placemat is finished!

This is the first of a 9 piece table setting...a table centre, 2 placemats, 2 serviettes, 2 serviette rings and 2 coasters....

 

And the news- Sadly, Colin's cancer has returned so posts will probably be very few and far between for a while.  The treatment is almost over, but the prognosis is not all that great...we are clinging to hope and prayers.

Hello Friends

I can't believe my last post was in January and now it is March!?!?

Where has this year gone already???

 These 2 pics are of my silk scarf...a gift for my soon to be sister-in-law. 

The pattern is from Neue Kloppelideen Fur Torchonspitzen...

now 5 reapeats down (2 repeats shown here), only 9 or so to go :)

 These fillet lace mats were worked by a friend.  We intended to travel to the National AGM week together until Colin's health scare.  Sue still went and had the best time.  Now she has finished her 2 pieces of fillet lace, she is gearing up to go to this year's AGM too!!

 In all the excitement this past 8 months, I forgot that Gracie would need a lacey bonnet.  2 weeks before the Christening, the penny dropped.  This pretty but plain edging is from Lace For Ten Pairs.  It made it to the christening on time, but unfortunately there is no photo of the finished bonnet because Gracie did not wear it on the day...

 Finally, I only have 2 inches of lace to make for the doll...I have previously posted about the lace...

It is time to make the practice doll, so at the end of lesson 1...

 And lesson 2...

It will be a few weeks before I can return, but I am really looking forward to the next lesson...final layer of skirt, prepare the bodice and head, then into the kiln she will go!!

It is going to be a year to remember...We are finally getting married in September YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!

Rainy holidays

Welcome friends,

As the rain falls and the temps drop for the school holidays, the lace grows :) Here are 2 more samples of bucks point lace. The bottom one is called sheeps head, but LOML and I think it looks more like an alien face - must be our Star Trek influence coming through LOL. The top design is honeycombe rings. I love this design, but still need to practice. I think I will fully wind some bobbins and make a worthwhile length - I do have a great excuse, but best not share at the moment :)

Last post I promised to show you my hardanger, so here 'tis! We had a workshop at our last Lace Day and I had to have a go, although I have not really aspired to this form of needlework. I have actually enjoyed this piece so far and am thinking about a larger sampler. The next step on this piece is the cutwork, but I will wait til the next meeting before tackling that.
The Lisbeth doily is also growing quickly. There is a small problem - I don't have enough thread to do the last round :(

What to do, what to do???

Order more of the same shade and hope they are very close, or use a different colour or leave it at the end of this round? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
